I know Gawker was looking for a full-time author to replace Tyler at FA (I know this because I applied for that position) but it’s well past the timeframe in which I would’ve been notified that I’ve been given the OK to be advanced through the hiring process. Based on recent columns it seems as if they’ve decided not to hire a replacement after all and have Andrew P. Collins take over a FA head contributor?

They also shutdown Lanesplitter, more or less, when they fired Sean and just let go Mate over in the Budapest office.
The Hulkster has apparently given orders to clean house.

Mate is gone? Did that just happen?

Jesus Christ. That seems harsh.

Yeah, I wouldn’t make any purchasing decision based on your future income as a FA writer....the way things are going, I don’t think they’ll be doing much hiring any time soon.

Daayyyyum. Of all the happenings, I never envisioned that would be one.

I just checked his Twitter. Jeez. I mean, I always kind of understood that the whole Budapest thing was just to justify Denton registering the company abroad, but I really liked Mate.

There are other personnel in Budapest - ad people, tech people, etc.

I wonder if he was told he was fired before he got that error message about editing on Jalopnik.
What the hell is going on with Gawker though?

I thought FA was the best sub-blog in Gawker’s orbit. No other major media outlet covers the military like Tyler/FA did.
Meanwhile 500 days of Kristin was saved.
Hey hey heyyyyy, chase Buzzfeed everyday.

I didn't know Budapest was anything more than a Jalopnik thing — because Peter Orosz and Mate Petrany were among the best writers we've ever had, and because they had easier access to other car markets and experiences that North America or Western Europe didn't. I honestly thought it was just 2-3 people, not a wider Gawker thing.

So now we riot, right?

Like Party-vi said, they had other support staff there too. They also had a Hungarian language sub-blog on Gawker.

How does one riot online?

Torch the place! Jalopnik will burn with the fire of a thousand Ferraris.

Tyler moved onto a new page at The/Drive . I think he saw which way the winds of change were blowing and got out while the getting was good.
